But what happens to all the leftover campaign funds?

The Federal Election Commission rules about what Federal candidates can and can't do with leftover campaign money, and the biggest directive is that they can't pocket it for personal use. But that has not stopped them. They become creative and Steal the money through Shell PACS, LLC, and other financial tricks to subvert the rules. In teh last Cycle Ocasio Cortez the Penniless Bartender from "the Bronx" and Ilhan Omar the Somali Pirate Islamists got money for their own peronal gains that they sneaked out of their campaigns and the CASTRATED FEC has done nothing about it.. NOTHING!

So the new crop of scammers have entered the scam and are now running for "president" knowing they will lose but they will get a nice payday for their efforts. Get some suckers to pay for their run based on some stupid popular catch phrase and get a number of people to donate to their campaign. ( OK so many of the dumb donors may actually think these flunkies could win and donate in all earnestness) But the Cynical Crooks know they don't stand a FREAKING CHANCE TO WIN.... BUT they stand a great chance to cash in on some MOOLAH!

Legally here's what a campaign committee is allowed to do with any "lingering" cash: it can donate the funds to charities or political parties; it can contribute $2000 per election to other candidates; and it can save the money in case the candidate chooses to run again.  Yes they can use the cash for their "Other Campaigns" Like continue to run for the Senate or the House or even a Mayor's race. They do not have to resign their current position.

Yes it happens on the republican side as well in the case of Rubio and Graham and Cruz...  Either way its a great SCAM.. Candidates have a win win.However, these regulations don't apply to the relatively new super PACs (Political Action Committees); this is only the second election where they have played a role, and there are currently no rules to stipulate what happens to that money beyond that it cannot go to fund another federal candidate. Much of that money tends to "wrap" up the failed campaign and pay off debts that will be claimed as Campaign Debts. Their hope is that no one is going to actually start investigating a losing candidate. Its a waste of time right? They lost right?   The goal of the losing campaign , however, is always to spend all of that money. Boy do they do it well.

These politicians, they'll often put their leftover funds toward their own next race. This way for folks like Kamala Harris or Corey Booker and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders... If they loose they start with a HUGE war chest for their own campaigns down the road. If they choose not to run, they have to abide by the same FEC rules but they wont because the FEC are IMPOTENT and they can steal the money!

YES FOLKS THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE WROTE A COOL RULE FOR THEMSELVES..
